The Art of Sleep
I’m convinced you can only sleep this soundly when you go to bed secure in the knowledge that there are people in the world who love you just as you are – and you’re one of them, when you literally have exhausted yourself squeezing every ounce of life you can out of each conscious moment, and when, intuitively, you know better than to allow yourself to be burdened with thoughts of the past or concerns about the future.
Once upon a time we all slept like this. The thing is, if I – and virtually every adult I’ve spoken to in the past six months – are any indication, very few of us do any more. Why is that? I suspect it’s due, in part, to the fact that, somewhere on the road to adulthood, we unwittingly allowed ruminations about a past we can’t change and obsessive worry about a future we can’t control to obscure our view of all the beauty that is right in front of us.
The good news is, with daily intention, we can rediscover and reignite the traits of our childhood hearts that not only made rest like this possible, but essential to living a whole and open-hearted life. And trust me, the journey back to the heart that accompanied us into this world is not a tedious chore. It’s an adventure. Think of it as a real life scavenger hunt where the prize that awaits is the unworldly-adorned, acoustic version of you!
